Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham have all expressed interest in Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, who is in the final year of his contract.
The 27-year-old Spaniard has yet to agree new terms with Brentford and is likely to be available for a lower fee if no new contract is signed before the start of the next season. He has been coy about his future publicly, and the prospect of a bargain has piqued the interest of several Premier League clubs, who have long followed his role in Brentford’s rise to eighth place.
Spurs, in particular, require a replacement for the 36-year-old Hugo Lloris, while United have yet to agree to new terms with David de Gea, whose current contract expires in five months.
Chelsea have their own issues to deal with: Édouard Mendy has yet to agree to a contract extension, and Kepa Arrizabalaga’s long-term future is unknown. Raya’s ability to distribute the ball from the back is unique in the Premier League, and his potential availability appeals to all three clubs, who have all inquired about the player’s situation.
Arsenal expressed strong interest in Raya in 2020, but Brentford turned down multiple bids of around £10 million, and the league leaders eventually moved on.
Raya signed a new contract with Brentford, who were later promoted from the Championship, increasing his potential sale value significantly. The keeper, who began his professional career at Blackburn Rovers, has since earned full international recognition for Spain. There has been little indication that he will continue to support Thomas Frank, and a battle for his services is likely at the end of the campaign.
Seny Dieng, the QPR goalkeeper whose contract runs until 2024, is one possible replacement for Raya at Brentford. Spurs and Brighton are also interested in the Senegal international, who was part of the World Cup squad in Qatar.
