WIGAN are negotiating a surprise deal with former England left-back Danny Rose.
After leaving Watford, the 32-year-old is a free agent and wants to stay in the Championship with Latics.
Danny Rose is negotiating a surprise deal with former England left-back Danny Rose.
Wigan already have two left-backs, but the opportunity to bring in someone with Rose’s experience is too good to pass up.
After starting his career at Leeds, the 29-cap defender spent 14 years at Tottenham, with loan spells at Sunderland and Newcastle.
Personal terms should not be an issue, as the Doncaster-born star will be returning north.
Rose has been in contact with Greek club AEK Athens, but prefers to stay in England.
He has a knee injury but hopes to demonstrate that he is ready to play.
Rose did not play for the Hornets this season and had his game time limited last season before his departure was announced this month.
“Watford FC and Danny Rose have agreed a mutual cancellation of the defender’s contract, with both parties agreeing that their futures will go in different directions,” according to a statement.
Danny, who appeared nine times last season in addition to the seven games he played on loan in 2008/09, is thanked by the Hornets for his service and wishes him well for his next opportunity.”

Rose was seen training with his former club Tottenham earlier this summer.
This move was thought to be at Rose’s request, as he desperately needed to get away from Vicarage Road.
He also did not travel with the Watford squad during pre-season.
