Richarlison explains why he joined Tottenham instead of Arsenal and Chelsea this summer

Richarlison explains why he chose Tottenham over Arsenal and Chelsea this summer.

Richarlison revealed to FourFourTwo (via Football.London) that Arsenal and Chelsea approached Everton for his services, but Tottenham Hotspur ended up signing him because they could pay the required fee.

He also stated that a phone call with Spurs manager Antonio Conte was a major factor in his decision to join the club. The Brazilian international joined Tottenham from Everton this summer for around £60 million.

According to Richarlison:

“During the negotiations, Antonio Conte called me and expressed how much he wanted to have me on board – that was critical to my decision.”

“I know Chelsea made an offer, and I believe Arsenal contacted Everton about my situation as well, but Spurs came in and paid the fee, you know?” That’s all there is to it.”

Everton, according to the former Watford player, needed to raise some funds in order to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations. He eventually joined Spurs and has been a revelation thus far.

In the summer, the Gunners signed Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City, while the Blues bolstered their attack by signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona and Raheem Sterling from the Cityzens.

Richarlison has been a fantastic acquisition.

Conte now has a very strong safety net thanks to the Brazilian striker. In fact, despite being benched in favor of the Sweden international in his first four appearances in Tottenham’s matchday squads, he appears to have displaced Dejan Kulusevski from the pecking order.

Richy started against Fulham and Olympique de Marseille, making significant contributions in both games. He assisted in the 2-1 win over the Cottagers and scored twice against the French side in the UEFA Champions League.

He was ineffective, as were most of his teammates, in the 2-0 loss to Sporting CP in Lisbon and was substituted near the hour mark in the 6-2 win over Leicester City. To cut a long story short, he has given our gaffer a wonderful headache.
