After a strong tackle against Iran in Monday’s 6-2 win, the striker was sent for an ankle scan this week. Kane won the Golden Boot at the 2018 World Cup and will be looking to repeat the feat this time around. It appears that his injury will not keep him out of tomorrow’s game against the United States, which will be welcomed news for England fans. Kane could now start tomorrow’s game, and Carragher believes England must rely on their talismanic striker to perform well.
“I think it would be a big concern, and I don’t think it’s too disrespectful to the other strikers in the squad to say there would be a big drop-off,” he told Football Daily.
He’s been a world-class striker in recent years; he was the top goalscorer in the last World Cup, and I think we all know he’s one of the first names on the team sheet.
“The backup behind him makes us a little weaker.” It would be a huge problem if Harry Kane missed two or three games in this tournament.” According to Carragher, the absence of Kane would weaken England. The former Liverpool defender is correct. If England is to win the tournament this year, they will need Kane to be healthy. Without their captain and in-form striker, the Three Lions have no chance of beating the world’s elite. England knows that a win tomorrow night will advance them to the competition’s knockout stages. That could not be a clearer incentive for Southgate as they seek to avoid a tense group finale against Wales. Do you have anything to say about this article?
