According to 90 Minutes, Tottenham Hotspur is now willing to pay Pedro Porro’s release clause in installments, and some Sporting Lisbon board members are willing to accept the bid. Antonio Conte will be desperate this month to improve his options at right wing-back after his team has clearly struggled down that side of the pitch. This season, Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty have been underwhelming at best, while Djed Spence has yet to see action under the Italian. Tottenham have been heavily linked with a move for Porro, who they have faced twice this season in the Champions League.

According to the Daily Mail, Spurs will be able to complete a deal for Porro if they activate his £40 million release clause. Conte’s men appear to be attempting to persuade Sporting to accept a slightly different payment structure, but the offer has elicited mixed reactions from the Portuguese club.
Tottenham is willing to pay Porro’s release clause.
According to 90 Minutes, Sporting are adamant that Tottenham must meet Porro’s £40 million release clause if he is to move to north London this month. Spurs, according to the outlet, are unwilling to pay the fee in one lump sum and would rather pay in installments. Some in Sporting’s hierarchy deemed the terms acceptable, but not their head coach Ruben Amorim.

Porro has been outstanding for Sporting this season and has been described as the “ideal” fit for Conte’s system. The former Manchester City man would undoubtedly be an improvement over Conte’s current options at the club. However, with Tottenham’s recent form casting new doubt on the Italian’s long-term future at the club, it is unclear whether he will be supported in the transfer market. Bringing in Porro would be ideal for Conte, but if the Italian leaves before the end of the season, the Spaniard may not be a good fit for a manager who doesn’t use wing-backs.
