Everton at home Everton’s star insists they’ve ‘added quality players’ in Tottenham newcomer – ‘a good deal’

Andros Townsend believes Everton were able to adequately replace Tottenham Hotspur star Richarlison over the summer.
Richarlison was a standout performer for the Toffees for several years. He was perhaps never more important to Everton than near the end of the 2021/22 season.
The forward put in some outstanding performances to help Frank Lampard’s team stay in the Premier League.

Richarlison left for Tottenham in the summer for a fee of around £60 million.
The Brazil international has made an impression in recent weeks and is quickly becoming a fan favorite at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Everton made good use of Richarlison’s transfer fee. Amadou Onana, in particular, appears to be a fantastic addition. The ex-West Ham target has joined them for around £31 million from Lille.
They also paid signing bonuses for Dwight McNeil, Neal Maupay, James Garner, and Idrissa Gueye.
Everton, according to Townsend, “have added players with the quality and mentality of Richarlison”:
“Any club would miss Richarlison’s quality and what he brings to the team, but I believe we’ve added four or five players for the price of Richarlison,” Townsend told talkSPORT.
“We’ve added players of Richarlison’s caliber and mentality.”
You see him chasing every ball and getting the crowd going for Spurs, and I believe we have that in Neal Maupay and [Amadou] Onana in midfield.”
We’ve added bodies that we needed as well as bodies that we didn’t have last season.
“Yes, we would love Richarlison, but we’ve done well off the back of that, and he’s scoring in the Champions League, so it’s been a win-win situation for both parties.”
Townend went on to heap even more praise on Maupay. He considers the former Brighton and Hove Albion striker to be a “great teammate,” and he adores him now that he is one of his teammates at Everton:
“He’s a player you love when he’s in your locker room,” Townsend added.
“You like what he brings, but you despise him as an opponent!”
I remember playing with him at Brighton – I know you want the headlines, but I didn’t hate him; he’s a player who knows how to get under your skin and the dark arts of football.”
Obviously, when you’re playing against him, he irritates you, but when he’s on your team, you want him to do everything he does, the dark arts and the housery, as you call it.
He’s been an excellent teammate, and we’re all thrilled that he scored on Sunday.”
