Tottenham are looking for new players in the January transfer window and could make a move for Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie.
Hincapie has emerged as one of Europe’s top young defenders. His performances in Germany drew attention, and he did himself no harm with some strong performances in the World Cup.
Following those performances, a number of clubs have expressed interest. Chelsea are said to be interested in Hincapie, while Tottenham are also said to be interested.
Tottenham’s interest may be bolstered further, according to The Mirror. The Mirror reports that Tottenham could make a move for Hincapie this summer and, if they do, loan him back to Leverkusen for the time being. However, there is a stipulation that Spurs would prefer a summer move.
Hincapie, 20, checks all the boxes for Tottenham in their search for a left-footed centre-back. Tottenham have long admired him, describing him as a “really impressive” player in his homeland.
Hincapie is thought to be worth around £34 million to Leverkusen. It remains to be seen whether the Spurs can meet that challenge while also pursuing Pedro Porro.
TBR Opinion: Hincapie is a wise long-term investment for Tottenham.
There’s no doubt Tottenham needs to strengthen their defense in the coming months, and Hincapie is a player they should be interested in.
Everyone who saw Hincapie in Qatar saw how talented he is. And he’s at a prime age to develop into a truly elite defender for a major European club.
It will once again come down to how much Spurs want to back Conte and how much money they want to spend. Nowadays, £34 million isn’t much for a top defender. And if Hincapie joins Porro, things will be looking up for the North Londoners.
